No. No chance. It is more likely that the antenna wire on the back of the radio pulled out. It's "Motorola Pin" plug so there is no positive latching/locking on it. I can just pull out.

Well, lets put it this way.

1- The radio is broken
2- The antenna is unplugged from the back
3- The wire or connection at the antenna is severed.

There is nothing else to cause that. The mere existance of the CB antenna will not cause this.

You can have SWR so high it pegs the meter, that still isn't going to make the FM stereo not work.

No squelch noise is not a function of the antenna. You can put a jelly donut on the end of a piece of coax and you should still get noise. That sounds a lot more like a problem with the radio than an antenna problem. Are you sure the speaker works to begin with. Can you receive anything at all (people nearby or far away)? Transmit range is tricky because terrain and people being there to answer you in the first place can be decieving.

Alright, that means one of two things to me:

1- Your radio is just toast.
2- You have an antenna installation problem. The mount could be messed up, the coax could be shorted or hooked up wrong, the connector on the radio end of the coax could be hooked up wrong or shorted. It should be grounded at the antenna end, that could be messed up. The list goes on. Check the SWR and see what it reads.

You have that antenna on your rear bumper? I've never seen anyone put anything other than an 8 foot quarter wave antenna on the bumper before. I suppose it will work but it isn't a good place for it. But regardless, that is neither here nor there. Something is probably wrong with the radio if you get no noise at all with the squelch wide open. Turn the stupid sound tracker thing off too.

You can't just replace whips when there are coils on it. The only thing you can replace as far as a whip is to the whole antenna off and put on a 102" (8ft) quarter-wave whip. No coils, just a big *** antenna.

I have a 102" whip and the top of it is up a good 6 ft above my truck, and even though i have always been told that cbs are made to only work within 4 miles or so, if the conditions are right, my buddies and i have been able to talk up to 4.5-5 miles away. But putting that on your bumper, you could potentially end up hitting the car behind you when you stop, I've had mine come over and hit my hood and i have a dent in my tail gate from it swinging around.

The antenna you linked has a coil on it. That is the big black thing on the bottom. You can not replace any parts of those antennas. The ONLY **** ONLY **** antenna that doesn't have or require any matching coils for a CB radio on your vehicle is a quarter-wave antenna which is 102" (8ft"). To put that on, you would have remove the entire antenna you bought, not just the whip portion.

Just go to a cb shop and have them figure out whats wrong with it, they will tell you in like 5 seconds flat. I was going to get the wilson 5000 magnet mount off ebay, but i havent yet...if i would have known you were going to get that radio i would have sold you mine! I have a brand new one in the box, since i upgraded to the 29ltd
