Dinger driving me nuts!!

The dinger sounds when the ignition switch is off and the key pulled with the door open. Is there an adjustment or does the switch need replaced? Anyone got an idea how to fix this problem? My truck is a 1994 Ranger XLT.

Hey, Dub,

Nope. I can get the ignition in just the right place and it will stop. Don't even have to have the key inserted.

that is a big problem, you have to pull your radio and there is a gray wire cluster that plugs into the box just behind and to the left of the radio. It will kill the dinger and wipers. Good except for rainy days. I joined this site hoping to find help with this but it looks like i know a little bit more than I thought. Also fuse number 24 or 29 its labeld gem system kills it, but it also kills speedometer, and odomoter. So i am still tyring to cure my dinger for rainy days. Hope this helps

You know, I really think the problem is in the ignition latching mechanism. The steering wheel does not lock until I have the ignition switch in just the right position. The dinger will stop when it is in this position but the entire assembly feels real funky at this point. The key can be hard to remove and reinsert in this position also. I may have to replace the ignition latching mechanism or maybe there is some sort of adjustment?

I've got a 94 B4000 and have the same problem. As you've mentioned, you can just adjust the key guard to stop the chime. Its not very serious, so I doubt you'll consider it worth it to take the dash apart, etc..

We actually have a door dinger mod like you described ON the site, in fact I originated it back on the old Generation-Edge board. But I think you're mistaken in suggesting it for a 1994 Ranger if you're referring to the mod for later production generations.
