I have a 98 Ranger 6cyl 3.0 and just recently I have had issues starting my truck. I'm a DIY tech and just recently replaced the head gaskets and it runs like a top but about a week ago I would turn the key and hear a click and after a few turns of the key it would eventually start. I thought battery or alternator and checked both and starter and the battery read low so I replaced the battery which was under warranty and both the starter and alternator tested good. Today was the worst day trying to start so I opted to change the solenoid with no change. turn key and a click. I will say that when it does start it isn't sluggish and starts right up. any help would be greatly appreciated. I searched your forum for this same issue and found nothing.

You didn't replace the starter? It just clicking sounds like the starter going bad.

 

Yeah, a starter was $100 and the solenoid was $20 so it sounds like I gambled and lost. Thanks
