Post GEM Module

Does the GEM (generic electronic module) do the same thing that the RCM module does. will it store air bag fault codes.

The GEM stores GEM related trouble codes. The RCM stores Restraints related codes. They are not in common between the two.

In 98, it is under the passenger side kick panel and has a 28-position electrical connector. It may also be listed as "Airbag Diagnostic Monitor" or "ECS" instead of RCM.

Lamp Fault Code 1-9 means that the Crash Data Recorder in the ECS is full. The ECS in the JY donor had apparently been in a collision too. LFC 1-9 is not caused by the belts.

A Ford dealer parts guy can look up to see if they are equivalent.
