I want to here from owners and dealers and such.

Is the Xcalibrator 2 that much better than the Xcalibrator? Has anybody used the data log feature? What does it do? Would it be something worth me having? Or would a simple plug and go tune from the Xcalibrator work well? Help me spend my money!

 

considering the X1 is no longer in productions, your choice should be clear

plus, the X1 with a cable is only $25 shy of the X2 with USB cable, its really a no brainer.

you can use the datalogging to trouble shoot a problem, which is the most common use, or at a dyno for a dyno tune.

and it will read and erase CELS, as well as offer on device tweaks, such are tire size, gear ratio, even tranny shift firmness and spark!

I just don't see my self using all the features of the X2, but then I dont think I fully understand what it can do either...

 

I'm with him. I just got the X-cal 2 from Doug, though. Other than changing programs and pulling codes, I have no idea how to use the full potential.

 

There is at least a dozen X1 and X2 owners here.... nobody use these features?

 

i just have a flip chip. im wanting to go to the X2 jsut for the fact if i want to have my program changed all i have to do is hook it up to my computer and use the software.

that right there is worth having to me. i hate sending my chip back to have it reprogrammed. you would have to mail it back with the X1 too. i hate not havingthe chip.

 

I got the X2 but my truck is being stubborn right now so we're trying to iron out the difficulties. I just use the basics right now but that's only because I don't have a lap top, and no other mods at the moment. When I get finished with the 84' I have a feeling that I wil be making use of alot of it's other feaures.

Hey a 99 4.0... so how do you like the X2 progams? What programs are you running? If you could go back would you get it again?

This brings up another point too.. is a Laptop necissary to use the data logging? I thought the X2 would store it till it was downloaded to the PC.. is this not true?

Sorry, I was at work when I replied earlier.

I got the 87 performance, 93 performance, and 93 torque. I liked the improved shift points that it gave, but so far that is about it. Don't get the wrong idea I think Doug is great at what he does, but I seem to have one of those 1-in-a-million oddball rangers that dosen't want to act right with aftermarket tuning. Would I do it again if I could go back? Well if I knew that my truck was going to be this stubborn I probably would have held off a little longer, but I think I would have done it eventually. Would I do it again? If he can tune the 5.0L that I am getting for my other truck then yes, but I dould take it to his shop for custom tuning since it will be a custom system.

I don't know much aout the datalogging functions so you would have to ask someone else about that.

I don't exactly know what's causing it, but I am recieving 2 DTCs after 100 miles or less that are thrown by the O2 sensors. I have do
ne a tune up, and replaces O2 sensors. The problem is only occuring with the custom programs. Doug sems to think that for some reason my truck is sucking more air than usual. I don't know what was done tho this truck when I bought it about 12,000 miles ago, It had arround 88,000 milse on it then. Best that we can figure is that the tune just needs to be adjusted a little.

So does nobody actually use the added features of the X2 or what? I'm starting to think I should get the used X1...

So can you use the logger function with a PC or is a laptop needed?

Sorry I am going to be of no help to you on this Jason. I have not attempted to use the data logging yet, but I do know there is a considerably increase in power as well as fuel mileage.

 

as of right now youll need a laptop to datalog, (or a loooong USB cable ) they plan on releasing a firmware update that will allow on device datalogging

Why should I buy the X2 over the X1's that you have for sale (Bob)?

I see a couple small featurs, but with out a laptop the main function isn't usable. I'v read that things can be changed by the user, but I have also read that if the program isn't set that way from the tunner (Doug) you can't do it.

This is quite confusing. I'm liking my chip more and more.. lol..

 

with the ondevice thing, once you get the tuner, you will have all the adjustability features ON the device. you lose those features IF you use extreme tune to change a tune and reload it onto the device

the key is, anything you would change in extreme tune, you can change on the device. and if you need a whole new tune done, just send it to doug and he can make a new tune and still keep your features.

i wont push you one way or the toerh, we used an X1 on my dads truck because it was cheaper and he didnt need any features. i should also note i only have one used X1 left...

 

I dont care about changing the tune.

So what your saying is that with standard tunes, the device can still change like gear ratios, tire size, and that junk via the unit... And someday it will be able to log and then transfer to a PC.

 

that is all correct, but replace "standard tunes" with "custom tunes that came on the device"

Damn it. This means I have to make up my mind.

EDIT:: Ok one more.
Now I have 3.73's, I am going to 4.56's. If got the tuner (X2) with my 'custom tunes' now, would I be able to tell it later I have 4.56's and that change the shift points acordingly, or is that something that I would have to have Doug do.

 

What's data logging?

 

you change the gears on the device, just plug it back up, enter the new gears, and retune it yourself.

datalogging reads all of your engine parameters, spark, fuel, load, rpm, temp, and many many more. they are most often used for troubleshooting problems, or when dyno tuning

 

I think I can handle this one. That one is one that you have to get Doug to change, but you don't necessairily have to ship the unit back to him. EDIT: I know that on some models you can change the gears, but I didn't think this was one of them. If you get the right software you can tell Doug what you need and he can just e-mail the new corrected tunes to you and you can load onto the device. Infact that is what he is going to do for me, the only problem is I ain't blessed with a lot of patience (Bob can attest to this), so I think I am driving a few people crazy waiting on my corrected tunes.

If you get an option unlocked tune, you can change shift points, gear change, spark, if you want to run richer or leaner fuel, and idle speeds, those are most of the options you can change.

I'd rather get the X2, I had the X1 and didn't really like it, the X2 is alot more user friendly and you don't have to remember which file is in which slot, because it tells you, that the problem with the chip I had and in case you didn't change your X1 tune alot.

So it looks like what I want is an X2, with unlocked tunes so I can chage gear ratios in it, and need a new hard drive and battery for my laptop to use the data logger...

What can you do about tire size with the tuner?
