2wd & 4wd blinking

what does it mean if your driving and all of a sudden the 4wd and 2wd lights start blinking for a little while then stop?

Since you have a 2wd, i'm leaning towards a bad gem or wiring.

The blinking 4WD and 4LO lights mean that there is a problem somewhere in the 4x4 system. To assist with diagnosis, there should be a trouble code or codes stored in the 4x4 Control Module. You would need to have the code(s) pulled by a Ford dealer or an independent shop with an advanced diagnostic tool. An ordinary OBDII code scanner cannot access codes in the 4x4 module.

Most of the time its a bad shift motor or it needs to be cleaned.

Cleaning the trans to clear the code is just a stall. The real problem is till there and it will happen again. 8/10 this happens with all codes. BUT i am not stopping you from flushing and cleaning the casse. It's only gonna help in the long run from other components being touchy.
