Ranger Impact Sensor Part Number?

Does anyone have access to a Ford manual for 2001 that would have the part number for the crash impact sensor? The ones that activate the air bags and are behind the bumper. I only found one but I don't want to break it to get it off. Must be another one somewhere.

Are you sure that what you're looking at is an impact sensor?

According to the info I have, the external sensors were only used until the late 90's. Your 2001 should only have internal sensors within the Restraints Control Module on the transmission tunnel.

I couldn't figure out how to add a picture within the post so here is a link to photos of the "sensor?" I also took a pic of the small dent caused by someone backing into the truck while idling deploying the air bags. The bumper is slightly tilted back and that will also have to be straightened out.

If someone could tell me how to insert a picture in a message I'd appreciate it.

Wow (embarrassed!) So easy. As for the insurance company, if anyone got paid it was the guy I bought it from. It happened to him and the truck had been sitting since June when it happened and he didn't want to spend (the dealer) money on fixing it. I bought the truck for what I think was a very good price and got some replacement (salvage) air bags and control module. Yet to be put in, but they arrived yesterday.

Speaking of the bumper tilt, anyone have a good idea as to how to best (as in easiest) method to straighten it out? Do I (really) have to remove the bumper and bend/replace a bracket? Everything is pretty rusty under there.

What I see in the picture looks like the foglamp connector and the ABS wire and a couple of harness runs. I think that the white connector in the middle of the picture might be for the Daytime Running Lamp module which is factory installed on Canadian Rangers only.

If the wires leading to it aren't bright yellow, it probably isn't part of the airbag system.

Ok, the white connector (middle) is the one I thought might be a crash sensor. Looks like 5 wires going to it.

Door sticker says Date of MFG: 11/00 Made in USA

No, no yellow wires. 5 wires-red, green, black/white-blue stripe and looks like brown.

I'm hoping it's not an impact sensor because I do have a new air bag module and if that's all I need..

DRL plug should be:

red/black
light green/yellow
light green/black
purple/orange
black

The Ranger Wiring Manuals show no external crash sensors from 2000MY~2006MY. The sensors are inside the RCM.

Thanks a lot for that! I should be set to install/have these bags installed then with the new RCM that came with the bags. I just didn't want them to go "pop" when installed. The clock spring must be ok as cruise/horn work fine.

That is kinda strange that the airbags would go off that easily. I read about this in your other post and figured that the bumper would have to have been dented in pretty good to set off the airbag. To my knowledge most airbag sensors are behind the radiator support so when little things like that happen, you dont get a face full of airbag.

I'm just glad it wasn't me that got it. And, that's why I'm checking..
