HF triple gauge install questions...

I bought these gauges at HF today, and am wondering if anyone happens to have installed them on their truck/car as well.

http://www.harborfreight.com/electro...set-41017.html

As for mounting them, I already figured where I'm going to put them...

However, when it comes to connecting the water temp sender, does anyone know what the thread size and pitch is? I don't want to pull the factory gauge temp sender to find out that the new gauge sender won't thread in.

The oil pressure will be pretty easy. Only question I have regarding that... is there a better way to get the oil to the gauge, or is the plastic tubing you get in the box good? It is a mechanical gauge.

I am not sure that I'll use the ammeter gauge, since I plan on putting an extra alternator on to ensure the battery doesn't run dry when I use a winch, and not to mention that the gauge only goes up to 60 amps... might put a volt gauge in place instead.

Reason for this is to get real numbers... I hate idiot lights/gauges with no numbers and want to know exactly how well my engine is doing.

The water side of it should have come with 1 or 2 extra brass fittings to fit correct? Since you dont wanna pull the old one first you could look at a stock one at a part store to match up brass adaptor?

The oil being mechanical you can just run the supplied plastic tubing and youll be fine, just make sure you snug the compression fittings so it dont leak oil on ya

Kool...

Thanks for the input!

Good idea on matching it up to a new parts store one. If it's cheap enough, I'll just buy one and take it to the hardware store and find what I need, if I need to do so.

The water temp sender has a 3/8" (I think, will check tomorrow) fitting, and a 3/8" to 1/2" (again, not exactly sure, will check) adapter as well...

Well, got the oil gauge almost complete installed... soldered my own little gauge light wiring harness...

Going to have to grab a 1" or so 3/8" pipe fitting, and throw a 45 degree elbow on it, then another short pipe fitting, then bolt the water temp sender in. With the way Ford set this engine up, there is not enough room for the temp probe to be bolted into the factory hose/temp sender fitting.

Ammeter gauge is not going in. If I find a higher reading one (more than 100 amps), then maybe. Otherwise I might just use the empty hole for an oil temp gauge later or leave it as is.

I also found the little panel (if you don't like HF gauges, well at least get the kit for the panel) to be perfect for bolting it with two factory dashboard bolts. I'll show pics of that later...
