Mystery Wire in Steering Column

Mystery Wire in Steering Column
Hi all, I'm new to this forum and new to Ford Ranger's. I just bought my son a 1993 Ranger 1) as a project truck and 2) to learn how to drive a manual. I was digging around the steering column for an unrelated problem and found a single grey wire not connected to anything. I made a guess and thought it might connect behind the ignition, but it was just a guess. The end connector is cracked. There is nothing NOT working that would indicate what this is for (I thought maybe a GRD for the horn?). I would like to know what it goes to though - I hate random wires. All pics attached. TIA for the help.
This wire was just hanging loose. It seems to fit here though.

Welcome to the forum
That's the "key in ignition" reminder that would sound a Chime if drivers door was opened and key was still in the ignition
So thats not working
Its wire is a GROUND when key is in the ignition, many disconnect it on purpose, lol
You can ground the loose wire and see if chime still works, should work key on or off, if drivers door is open
And the grey plastic part can be replaced if chime still works and you want the "key in ignition" reminder to work
Remove the key cylinder and you will see how it comes out, and how it works
