fire and ice led bar

uhh im assuming this is the right section. but i just had a fire and ice led light bar installed today at a local shop. i ordered the part through www.stylintrucks.com anyways i got it for christmas and they tried to install it, (hardwire and then bolted to the truck) but a module so the trucks lights were not affected was needed and so they called up stylin and they sent one. so i went to go get it permanently installed today and everything went well apparently. but i checked it out after and when i turned on the blinker the whole bar blinked. according to the diagram on the website. when the blinker turns on only half the bar is supposed to illuminate and blink. like if i turn on the right blinker then the right half of the bar blinks. well i went back and talked the guys at the shop and they said they assumed the same thing i already knew that half of it was supposed to blink. they then informed me that there was only one way to wire it, and they did it that way. another worker also said he had one on his ranger and it did the same thing. now my question is why does the whole thing blink and is there anyway to make it work properly?

probably an error in the hard wiring. left blinks when left blinker is on. right side blinks when right blinker is on. all lights blink when emergency flasher is on.

The easiest method is to plug into trailer harness. If you don;t have a harness, install one. It should be a plug'n play harness from ford which makes it idiot proof. The only wire that needs harwired is the reverse light.

right. well its hard wired to the whole light system because i needed the use of my trailer harness since i already have one. but it had to be hard wired because i tested the day i got it by plugging it into the trailer harness and it shut down the whole directional system in the truck. nothing worked. which is why i needed the module and thus the hardwire.

Not to be a dick, but you should have done it yourself in the first place and saved $ instead of taking it to a shop, its the simplest of all mods to do. Secondly, just plug it in to your harness, if not, like Wayne said, get one. Thirdly, it could just be a manufacturer F-Up. Call them up and aks them.

Gotcha. Some guys on here did it without pulling anything apart, I just pulled my tailgate off and did it that way. But hey, whatever you're comfortable with. lol. Good luck getting it all sorted out.

Yep... only the corresponding half of the bar is supposed to blink with the blinker. I just plugged mine into the trailer harness 'cause it's 8,000x easier than hard-wiring it. Sounds to me like the toolbox installed it wrong on his Ranger and now he installed it wrong on yours! I'd definately make them fix it... it's not doing what it says it's supposed to in the directions so they need to make it work properly or not mess with it to begin with.

I removed my tailgate as well to install mine. This was so easy I'm pretty sure I could train a monkey to do it.

theres no reason you couldn't make a pigtail to turn your one harness into two. I assume the stock LED connector has been hacked off though. You have what you have at this point.

right i understanding that your saying. i could have done that. but. when i originally plugged into the trailer harness none of the TRUCKS directionals worked. for ex, turned on the left blinker and both lights on the dash came on and none of the trucks signals worked. not just the bar. that why i needed a module to regulate it or something like that. and i assume the module wouldnt be compatible plugging into the trailer harness with the four pin connector.

Mine didn't require a module, something else has to be messed up.

ya. idk all i know is it didnt work without it and stylin sent me the module for free so im not asking any questions there considering about 90% of everything works now. its just that darn blinker issue. ill give them a ring tomorrow and see what they say. it doesnt look overly bad with the whole thing blinking. it just doesnt look right.

That shouldn't have happened... sounds like something was mis-wired before you ever got the line of fire.... I'd focus on that issue at this point 'cause it's only gonna cause problems in the future... have you ever had a trailer plugged in?

update

ya, well i talked to my friends dad today and he looked at it and we tested some stuff with a voltage meter and then emailed plasmaglow the manufacturer and they basically told me that it sounds like a diode was messed up in the bar and was sending back feed and so they just said take it off send it back and we will send you a new one and give you double your shipping cost in credit. so its all sorted out, just need to ship it. not going back to the shop, just going to have my buddies dad wire up another four pin connector and then just plug it in...should have in the first place anyways.but the bar was defected.. oops, i guess ill learn from my mistakes.
