Well I don't think many of you replace your rivets when you remove your windows or regulators with rivets, most of you guys use bolts from what I've read. But I like to have my truck as maintenance free as possible so I decided to reinstall using rivets. This is where this post is important because STANDARD RIVETS ARE BAD FOR FASTENING YOUR WINDOWS!

The rivets on your truck that hold the windows in are very specific. These are peel type (they don't bulge, they have 3 or 4 tiny wedges on the mandrel head that split the shaft of the rivet to make it peel like a banana, looks like the old cartoons where a barrel explodes) and have a larger grip offset.)

In other words these rivets are made to go through the regulator arm the glass and the two white plastic washers and then apply pressure on the metal washer on the back. Traditional rivets bulge and this can stress your window and cause it to CRACK OR BREAK.

You should be able to get by using standard rivets on the regulators because you don't have to worry about stressing any glass and what you are riveting is so small in thickness compared to about 1/2" on the window part.

I've done some research on the exact rivets that ford uses:

For attaching the window to the regulator arm:

You can also get these on ebay for alot cheaper ( I would post links to some but they would expire).

To install these rivets you need a rivet gun capable of 1/4" rivets. I bought mine at harbor freight for 20 bucks, pretty decent quality.
