another "My odometer" on 02 edge

I was driving along today and the odometer crapped out at 36699 and trip 101.8

Reset trip to 0 and nothing.

Read that I should take the cluster out and check the physical unit itself but where is the sending unit, on the trans?

Its a 5 speed (no idea on model number as I know next to nothing about rangers, looks like a mini 3650)

Is there any way to make sure the sending unit is working? Or what should it read in ohm or volts or whatever it uses to measure?

If the speedometer is still working, then your problem is not the OSS sensor on the transmission. The speedo and odo are geared together, so, if the odo only has stopped, then the problem is mechanical and inside the speedometer head.

thanks!

the speedo still works, so I guess the cluster is coming out.
What is the deal with these things?!?
Seems like there are plenty of threads here and in some other forums about the ranger odometers not working.

From what I've heard, the gears in the speedo mechanism sometimes fail and are not available new from Ford. I would try a junkyard for a speedo head or swap in a complete used cluster.
