Icon5 Ignition Light Staying On

My ignition light is staying on. I recently had the serpentine belt replaced and the water pump. So I thought perhaps the tension on the alternator was incorrect but the alteranator is working fine. My battery was an old one and was incorrect cranking size etc so I put a new one on but still the igntion light stays on!!!
It is a 1994 RangerXL 3.0L V6.
I wondered about a short somewhere? It runs fine and the battery is keeping charged with lights on radio, heater etc.
So any ideas on what is causing this problem will be greatly appreciated.
