It should say "Check Gage". Yes it's spelled incorrectly. I don't know why Ford did that. But the Check Gage is the low gas light.

Well if the rest of the dash lights work then the bulb might be burnt out. The light should be on the top toward the left side. It should be circular in shape.

Ours have to get pretty darn low before they come on. I know I have about 3.5 gallons left once mine comes on.

I noticed that on my '98 as well..."Check Gage". Mine comes on when the needle is right on the "Empty" mark. It also comes on if I'm at about a 1/4 tank but on a downhill slope.

What I don't understand is why Ford didn't use the little gas pump light for a low fuel indicator. It's there, I can see it if I look hard on the lower left side of the gauge cluster.

Doesn't make sense.

Just so you know, clusters without a tach don't have the check gauge light.

Well, speaking of which, my gas light came on today, and yes, in my 07 it is the little fuel pump symbol. Now, my question is, 02 Edge mentioned he has 3.5 gallons left once his lights up, is that normal for all of them, or ? I managed to make it across the river to fill up (gas in Canada is 1.09 a litre, but you cross the little bridge into the U.S.A. and it's 2.79 a gallon) but I'm just curious as to how far you have, roughly, before you run out once your gas light comes on.

that explains why i dont get a little light. on a side note....i was below E at a gas station and filled up. took 13.5 gallons. which means i had 3 gallons left in the tank....weird.

i think its good that it shows up when you have 4 gallons left.. cause yeah what if it turned on when you had .5 gal left.. youd only have about 7 miles till it sputtered to a hault

My Check Guage turns on at about 2 gallons it seems. I have pushed it to the limit a few times, stumbling into the gas station. I know that once the light comes on I can make it to or from work but not much (as in dont want to test it) farther.

On my 95 I dont think there was any idiot warning, I ran that one dry twice

I know it's "bad for the fuel pump" but i did that quite a few times when i had my truck.. one time I ran it 30 ish miles on the gas light and it started sputtering and made it into the gas station just in time
