Wiring questions on 2004
#1
Was researching the mustang dome light mod, and came across the usual obstacle. No constant power at the done light.
So I was fishing around, and found two wires by the third brake light that didn't seem to go to anything. Colors were brown/pink string and solid orange.
So question is:
1. What do these wires do?
2. Is one a constant power? If not, what's the best way to bring up constant power to dome light? Please let me know what fuse/wire/location you used.

There are 2 places that I know of that you can get a constant power. The wire that powers the light on the glove box or the wire going to the 12v power point next to the radio.
The difference between the 2 is that, the glove box light shuts down after the 10min power saver feature kicks in but the 12V power point is not affected by that at all and is always on.

Actually my '04 doesn't have a glove box light either... :) I don't recall if my 03 did, but it certainly isn't in my 04. There isn't even the little sensor present that turns on any type of glove box light, unless it's tied into the latch somehow. Anyway, the list of mods to do grows! :)

Actually the wires in question appear to belong to the rear speaker. They ran behind, but not to the high mount brake light.
And the orange wire probably had a red stripe I wasn't seeing.
Either way, I'm gonna have to run some power up from the dash for my map lights to work as I want. I was just hoping I only had to run wire through the headliner, not the dash, A-pillar, and then headliner.

My experience...
I just added map lights (and a glove box light too) a couple of weeks ago. You want to tap into circuit # 705 at the Smart Junction Box in the passenger foot well. Look for the light green wire with orange stripe (LG/OG) coming out of the large bottom plug on the SJB. This is the same wire that runs to the Instrument Panel Dimming Module for the dome light (it's powered by the Battery Saver Relay).
Run the wire up the passenger A-pillar to the back of the passenger door opening, and then across to the dome light location. If you want to use a stock Ranger dome/map light assembly, you'll need one of the black plastic wire terminals (like the one already there). The best place to get one is a junkyard. Note that there are two types of terminals, so try to get both types (you'll see when you get it apart).
Good luck.
