Replacing water pump, what else?
Hey guys, it's been a while since I've had to post on the forums. I hope you all have been well and that your Ranger's are causing you less headaches than mine!
4.0 SOHC 2002, ~115,000 miles
I started losing coolant underneath the passenger side of the engine a little while back, and after looking around I could not pinpoint exactly where the leak was originating from. Is there a good spot to look up onto the water pump? Most of it is concealed from view from a majority of angles.
I'm assuming the water pump is shot, because the pulley is loose and when in operation the pulley pushes in and out. Also a chirping sound comes from the water pump area that increases and decreases with engine speed.
A small oil leak has appeared on the rear driver-side head gasket area, however oil pressure and temperature gauges show no change. I understand this is a whole 'nother can of worms and don't expect any advice here. Focusing on the cooling system for now.
I just have one question:
When replacing the water pump what other parts are a good idea to replace with the cooling system empty? Someone told me the thermostat, another told me the fan clutch. I haven't had any issues with either, although I've never seen my temperature gauge go above the midpoint - which seemed strange considering the truck has run a few times with an empty coolant reservoir.
Once I fix up this issue and the other issues this truck has, I'll probably sell it with the head gasket issue for a good price, if anyone is looking for a Ranger.
