brake light issues

brake light issues

i noticed last nite that my rear driving lights are always on bright(as is i was braking) and also the 3rd (cab) brake light, when i hit the brakes they get a notch brighter, what caused this and how can it be fixed?

Sounds like the brake light switch is sticking.

where is it located and how can i fix it?

Well it could be on the brake pedal arm. Just follow the arm up. Some vehicles do use a pressure sensor instead of the sensor in the pedal but I don't know which the Ranger uses. To fix it I'd just replace it.

Someone will chime in. They will tell you exactly where it's at. You might just be able to fix it with lube.

Might as well look for it. I'm almost certain it's on the brake rod. Find it then push the brake pedal in and see if the button on the switch moves like it's supposed to.

Remove the brake light bulbs from the tail lamps and replace them . One of them is partially shorting causing the brake lights to come on when the marker lights are on.

Definitely the brake switch.

They're cheap enough from places like AutoZone... Like someone else said, follow the brake rod until you see the unit.

I'd recommend you buy it first... that way you'll recognize it when you see it. lol
