Icon4 1998 2.5 blower motor functions

my blower motor always work on high, and low, and SOMETIMES on the 2nd. Ever since I bough the truck june 2012 it's been this way. I figured it was a resistor block so I bought one of those to install tonight. Then started thinking if it could be anything else, maybe the actual cluster in the trucks dash? anybody got any input on this?

also just to be sure, isn't the resistor block in the blower motor housing that you can get to from the engine compartment?

thanks in advance

Yeah its to the bottom right of the blower motor inside the engine bay.

Most likely the resistor or bad connection.

Had the same problem with mine but my plug actually melted that hooked to the resistor.
