2000 Ford Ranger Tranny
2000 Ford Ranger 4x4 Automatic
When I first start driving the truck it feels like it's in second (it might be in first and shift seamlessly into second). After exceeding 2500 rpm it drops to 1st and rpms increase dramatically. From there it will not leave 1st until I shut truck off. I can put gear shifter in 1st, 2nd, reverse, or park and it works fine.
Neither the check engine light or o/d lights are on or flashing.
The local transmission shop said their were no codes and it was electrical. The local auto electrical shop said there were no codes and it was mechanical. The dealership said I had P175 code, needed a new reman tranny, and quoted $3,500.
Any help in troubleshooting? If only I had electrical drawings and a way to see the PCM control logic for tranny...

P0175 is passenger side of engine is running Rich, not related to transmission.
Could be spark plug going bad.
Yes dealer labor is not cheap, but warranty is GREAT, not worth it IMO though
You should have the 4R44E automatic in a 2000 w/3.0l
Bottom line is it will need to come out and be serviced/rebuilt.
Electronic Transmissions use solenoids inside the transmission, so electrical or mechanical doesn't really matter at this point, unless you think it could be the computer............it isn't.
You can test the solenoids at the connector on trans, they should all be 20-30 ohms
Just like manual transmission users need clutches, automatics need rebuilding.
Automatics run at very high pressures inside, they blow out gaskets and solenoid valves, all this changes the pressure inside and pressure levels are used to shift gears.
I would price out local rebuild exchange, they give you rebuilt trans you give them your trans.
That's the fastest way.
Or pull yours and have it rebuilt.
You definitely want a new torque converter, and FORD main pump, 3rd party pumps don't last as long.
The newer parts used today are much better than originals in there now assuming it hasn't be rebuilt before.
Trans wiring here: http://www.autolib.diakom.ru/CAR/For...RAMS/15632.pdf
1995-2000 Rangers w/3.0l all used 4R44E
Also have this one:
