4.0L battery problems & acting like rev limited to 3000

Ok, my problem started about 4 days ago. When I rev my engine past 3000 rpm, the battery light begins to flicker. Also, when I am parked or have it in neutral and try to rev the engine, the rpm bounces off of 3000 like it has a rev limiter at 3000. I thought maybe the serpentine belt was slipping at higher rpm, causing the battery light. I replaced the belt but am still having the same problem. Next I had O'reiley auto parts test my alternator and battery. They said the alt was good and that the battery was "marginal". So last night I make a trip to my mom's for easter. Battery light comes on again, this time constantly and not at higher rpm. I kept driving, first my radio died, then the gauges, eventually the truck began losing speed and died. Battery was toast, I got a jump start and made it to my mothers house but by the time I got there I had no headlights at all and the engine was just barely running. Any ideas???? If the alt is good then even with a bad battery the engine should not have died, right? Also before the engine died every single dummy light was on, except for the check engine light. (BRAKE, ABS, AIRBAG, BATTERY, COOLANT)

well the truck only reving to 3K in park/neutral is normal...its supposed to do that...keeps you from damaging your motor

shouldn't the rev limiter be set closer to 6000 rpm? I have a 98 mustang gt and I can rev it up to 6000 whether it's in gear or not.

Lol not while in park or neutral! It's 3k!

Try replacing the battery, and checking all connections. Maybe there's a loose connection somewhere?

buy a new battery. running the systems on low voltage and bouncing the truck off the rev limiter, its a wonder it even starts. i can see a wanted ad in the near future for a new 4.0L.
