Instrument cluster swap problems

I swaped my tachless instrument cluster for one out of a 2003 edge with tach, hooked everything up after I changed the miles on the new one to match theone out of my old one, and drove it for 4 tenths of a mile and it stopped reading mileage. So I don't know whats going on, has anyone had the same problem? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Did you take apart the odo?

i think you may have broken it.

I beleive you can swap the speedo/odo guts from the old unit, but im not 100 % sure.

Does the old one swap right in even though its not a speedo with a tach?

Dude, all you had to really do was unscrew the entire mechanism for your old speedo and install it on the cluster I sold you. What did you do to it?

Install the one from your old cluster. Hook up a battery to check the speedo needle setting, then swap it over, hook a battery back to the connections on the speedo, then reinstall the needle where it was when you tested it initially.

I liked the white on black numbers the new one had better than the black on white numbers my old one had.

I hope nothing to serious. Troubleshooting it now.

I left the odometer from the sport trac (white with black) because I didn't want to mod it.

I put a 2003 cluster with a tach in my 2000 which had no tach originally.I also put my original odometer in the new cluster because I wanted my miles to be correct.I had no problem with any of the swap.I did the swap at about 70,000 miles and now have 169,000 miles and the tach has been acting up,jumping around at times.I guess the tach has gone bad and I am either going to swap my stock cluster back in or get another cluster with a tach.It gets old going 70mph on the highway with the tach sitting on 5,000 rpm!

Got it working like a charm. Turns out we just had the wheel that the numbers are on to tight. Took it out and loosened it up and it works like a charm. So now I have a working tach and speedo. Thanks guys and gals for all of your help.

Big thanks goes out to pastfinder for selling me a great instrument cluster.

Its good to have a tach. I couldn't be more happy with it, glad I took it off your shelf and put it to good use.
