Remove old & install new headlights in '98
Hi guys...I'm new here and this is my first post. I just got a nice '98 Ranger and have to replace the old yellowed and fogged-up headlights. I have new ones to install. I've searched some on this forum and all I could find was headlight replacement on a 1993. On it they talked about three clips and just using pliers on them.
I see the clips (they have a little tab that fits into a slot) on the lights in the truck now but at a loss as to "how to use pliers" on them...what is the secret? If I get the clips off of the treaded part, does the headlight just pull out to the front?
If I get the old lights out, is there any trick or anything I should know about when installing the new ones?
Sorry if this has been asked a lot before, but I couldn't find anything excep the '93.
Thanks,
Don B..............."OldSport"

Thanks StrangerRanger for the quick answer. It is pouring down the rain here, wind blowing and cold. I'll try the Snap Ring Pliers as soon as all of this lets up. I have a pair of the Snap Ring Pliers.
When i get the three clips off, does the light just pull out straight then or is there something else I need to do?
Thanks again.....you da man !!

I just had to do this on my 1998.
It's pretty simple really. Bend the metal part out from in the slots and then pull off the clip. It's similar to a "c-clip" once the tabs are bent out. Once you have the clips off the headlight will just pull out from the front. Like the previous poster said, you have to disconnect the bulbs first.
Make sure you save the clips also and try not to mangle them to much when you bend the tabs. I got my new light from a bone yard and I figured they would include the clips. They didn't. Not sure if you get a new set when you order the light new.
Good luck!
