Weird oil pressure???

I have a 1999 Ranger xlt 3L, everything runs well...lately though I've been noticing that my oil pressure gauge looks lower than normal, the needle isn't dead center. Do u think there's something wrong or the gauge being weird.

I wouldnt worry. The sender could just be old and starting to act weird. If you are that worried plumb in a mechanical gauge just to check it. But those gauges are wildly inaccurate. More of a glorified idiot light really

The gauges are set to read about midway when there is about 7psi oil pressure or more.
If the gauge is reading different from what it used to , either the gauge is going weak or check the system voltage to be sure the alternator/battery is keeping up.

Is the sender a pressure transducer, or just a pressure switch?

It is a switch that actuates at about 7 psi.

Thanks.

So the needle sits at a fixed position if there's 7 psi or above?

In later years I think the computer generated a dance for the needle that simulated real oil pressure. Very misleading.

And in my 2011 there is no OPG at all.

No

The gauge isn't real anyway.
