6 CD Changer's "Phone" Mode

First off, I've been lurking here for about a month but never found the need to post because every question I've had has been answered by someone already.

However, I'm kind of stumped.

I have the stock 6 CD Changer and I've been doing some research on adding an aux input to this stereo. I've seen the adapters that use the CD Changer input (the 20 pin plug)... and after looking at pinouts I saw a "CD Right IN and CD Left IN". Hooking an audio cable from my ipod to this did nothing.

So, on a whim I stuck the + and - ends of the audio cable onto the Phone + and Phone - pins (11 and 12, I think) and grounded the "Phone transmit" pin (10? it's right beside the SSV mod pin).

Low and behold, the radio went into "Phone" mode and I heard the audio! So, my temporary solution is a switch on my switch panel (where my ashtray used to be) that cuts off the ground when I'm listening to the radio... and a quick flip of the switch completes the ground and switches into Phone (iPod) mode.

Now, comes the part where I have a slight problem. The designers of the system had a phone in mind, and as such most (I'm going to say 80-90%) of the audio heard from the iPod comes out of the rear speakers. My guess is this would be to minimize feedback when actually using this system as a phone.

So, my question is... does anyone know how to fade the signal toward the front again? I tried the bal/fade switches but they do nothing. The only input it accepts is volume (and there's no volume display.. you just turn it to a level that sounds good).

Any thoughts?

Edit: Just realized this was in the wrong cat.... sorry.
