Where should I mount horns?

Where should I mount horns?
I am gonna put dixie horns on my truck. I had them on my 69 F100 but sold it. So, I want to put them on my Ranger. Where should I mount the 5 trumpets and pump? I have been looking around at the different places people have been mounting their horns. Problem is though that they are plastic and do ya think the car wash could break them? I don't know. Let me all know what ya think. Thanks

I had Dixie's on my ranger. My good pics are on my father's computer. But I removed the stock horn, relocated a new horn to the driver side of the core support. And in the place of the stock horn was, I mounted the 5 trumpets. Under the new horn, I made a bracket for the compressor/solenoid, also mounted to the core support. I'll put all my pics from the laptop onto my external, and post back in this thread.
Best pics i've found(on my cardomain).

Still gotta get those good pics......but yea. you're in luck.....you have a manual too. So no trans cooler to get in the way. I mounted them behind the grille to be as loud as possible, and hidden. I took them out when my compressor took a crap on me. Now there's a PA speaker in the dixie horns place. The Compressor bracket is still there though.

Thats AWESOME! Gonna buy them now that I have an idea of where to mount them. Now, when you spray painted the horns, did you spray down in to them or did you put something inside of them? Did you just make like a "C" out of metal and attach it to the core support? How easy is it to take the grill off?

I painted the "inside flare" on the horns. It was nice and loud still...no difference in performance from red to painted black....except you can't see the black. The kit I got, and I believe all the other kits, come with mounting brackets for each tone/horn. I think I got a Fiamm.
Removal of the grille on 98-00 i'm unsure of. But i'm dang sure it's easy. Maybe 2 screws up top, and two snaps on the bottom. Mine was an easy removal.
However you mount your compressor, make sure it's as vertical as possible for proper oiling. Mine was as vertical as I could with the space given to mount it. And remember, I upgraded my horn(above the compressor), and relocated from the passenger side to the driver side.

Ok, my horn is already on the driver side. I think what I will do is take the grill out and look at the space I got. Make sure there is plenty of it. I think I will get mine from JC Whitney. They have it for $60 and free shipping. What kind of switch did you use and where did you mount it? I think I am gonna mount my switch somewhere on the radio bezel thing.

I mounted the push button where the AC outlet or whatever was. I bought the switch from delcity.net with a big order about 4 years back. The rubber button fits perfect into the bezel. I used a washer on the backside because the nut was so small(od). Works great in that location. I now use the switch for my semi-truck horns(some call them train horns).

Evan...don't be a playa hata! come ons nows.
I could. BUT...I have to remove the grille...and to remove the grille, i'd have to remove the 4 kc's up front....and that is a royal pain. so....
I know i used like 1/8" plate. approx 6" tall. I took the compressor and the chunk of plate i had....put the plate where i wanted it. made the compressor as vertical as possible. took a sharpy to the plate to where i was going to drill the mounting holes for the comp. drilled 'em and the bracket mounting holes though the plate and the core support. cleaned up the cuts on the bench grinder where i cut the diagonal. painted it. mounted it. done.
i'm typing it more complicated than it really is...just head out and get yourself some material...get a sharpie, grinder, cutoff wheel, and drill. bam...done.
it's a very very simple bracket...ain't that hard.
