i need help!!!!!!!!

ok leaving my grls house this evening i shifted my truck into reverse, i was like wow i got a little play in my SHIFTER, so i go to put it in drive and i had to rock it into that gear i was like WTF, so i shift down to 1st, again i had to rock it back and forth to get it there. goin down the road i put it back in drive, TRANNY SHIFTS FINE... even the fluid is brand new... so i go to the gas station to get some chew and put it in park, thing is it said it was in park, then it slid in between P and R so i stepped out of the truck and acted like it was in N. i push it forward against the hill back to my parking spot (might i add it was still between P and R, so i figured its not getting into park, so i had to put it in N to start it, and drove to the rodeo grounds where i took the colum apart, nothing seemed out of the ordinary for what i could see and sprayed some brake clean into it hopeing to free it up or something. no difference, so i try many gears, got into all of them rocking the shifter back and forth except P and 1st, so i put it in park (between p and r) and get out, push the truck forward 10ft and then back wards, so i check the linkage to the tranny, the little shift thingy on it, and put it into park again afyer gion through the gears, and it was still between p and r so i get under the truck and push the shifter the rest of the way, and when i got into the truck i noticed a brass colored torx bolt on the floorboard, and it didnt hit me til i opend the colum that maybe this bolt fell out, but from where??? can i do this myself knowing its something to do with the shifter, joint, cable area??? dash be removed???? someone help me out amd i hope this was descriptive enough
