Wiper motor 2005-6 ranger
Ford ranger 2005-6 windshield wiper motor replacement
I believe this only applies to these 2 years
Unbolting is the easy part, removing the links to the motor can be difficult; visibility and link clip removable is close to impossible. The ford shop manual and you tube are not any help.
Start with the blades vertical and or watch thru the hatch for the crank to be closest to the hatch.
To remove the clip on the link to crank shaft I fabricated a clip tool that I taped to my finger. The tool took 30 seconds to remove after a previous 1 hr + of trying. This was aluminum .040 thick, half hard (ridged but bendable). 3” x ¾, a 2” section was bent to fit my finger, the 1” left was given a double bend to form a 1/8” step allowing me to slide the tip under the clip latch, pry up 1/8” and slide the clip away from to access hatch and off. All with one hand and out of sight.
The links were then pried of the rusty crankshaft. You can see through the access hatch, (barely) the position of the links for future reassembly
Reassembling
The clip must be assembled through the plastic bushing slots. This is impossible to do out of sight with only space to squeeze my hand into. (only slightly easier to do on the bench.) The shaft tip is bullet shaped, apparently for a reason. Pre assemble the clip on the top of the link (right wiper) in the locked down position. Place left link on first then rt link with clip on top. Press the link with the preinstalled clip over the bullet shaped shaft until it seats. I had to pry it on using a carpenters pry bar from behind with a wood back up on the firewall as a spacer.
Because of the rust I removed both links, polished and trial pre assembled on the bench. Reinstalling the left wiper pivot shaft is best done with a string tied just below the spline fore the wiper arm assembly. That will help pull the pivot shaft over and out, note that the shaft bearing has a top and bottom. Pre marking with a paint pen helps. The pivot shaft retaining nut is 32MM, 1 ¼” may also work.
