Here's a few pics of a couple new cargo 3rdBL's too.
One is my brand new design using the same LED's as the BMF.
NEW cargo brakes lit up:
Blemish in the new "regular" cargo light I just finished.
A small chip or something on the inside of the cargo lens... not noticeable from arm's length, but if you're looking right at you can see it. I'm willing to give a little discount on this one due to the blemish...
It is one of my "extra LED's" cargo LED mods with more than the usual amount of LED's.
I have several that I started modding towards the end of last year, but I was sick for a while.... then it got too cold to do anything in the garage & I'm not quite caught up yet.
I do plan on modding more though.
Hey, Buggman - I recently bought a fairly pristine 04 Edge Stepside, and am doing all the usual mods - Access Vanish tonneau, Truck Champ side nerf bars, hood struts, air box mod, Magnaflow exhaust (going on Wednesday), Mustang dome light, etc. And I just bought that beautiful set of Mustang leather buckets that Troy did, and we're looking now for am Explorer console to go with them. If you have one, or can make one, I'd like to get one of your third brake light/cargo light combos. I also gather that I should replace the dome light and map lights with your LEDs. Do you also have LEDs for the license plate lights? Please PM me and let me know what you have, don't have, may have, will have or whatever.
Also, another thought... I know wood burning... , what about Cargo Lights and directionals in the same section, white and amber would be nice too !
Good work on the new 3rd brake/Cargo Light.
I haven't got into the cree led's yet, they're pretty expensive & need some big heatsinks to keep 'em running cool.
I've done a couple cargo + turn signal mods, actually have one almost finished right now... it uses 5mm led's & has white/red led's in the cargo sections. It's not plug-n-play as you'll need to tap into your turn signals
I did a little experimenting with amber/yellow led's & they were kinda wimpy looking, as in not nearly as bright as I wanted them to be. The red led's are quite a bit brighter & since I have to use less of them & the white led's in the cargo+turn signal mods, I kinda kept with the red.
Well, the superduty superflux 3rd brake light is boxed up ready to head out to it's owner.
The cargo + turn signal light is on the way now too.
I do have an all red 5mm standard version finished as well as a brand new cargo light superflux ULTIMATE conversion (it has the absolute maximum number of superflux led's I can possibly squeeze in the housing).
Have more in process, 5mm standard cargo, superflux standard cargo, all red 5mm standard, etc.
A little info about the differences in the variations of the 3rdBL LED conversions...
Cargo + Turn Signal 5mm
Cargo + Turn Signal SuperFlux
Brake + Turn 5mm
Brake + Turn SuperFlux
SuperFlux Cargo + Turn
Since the SuperDuty lights are much more expensive to start with, I decided to do them with SuperFlux LED's only for now (that is when I can afford to get a couple more to mod)
I have one superduty light to be modded but I have 2 more on order, should be here next week.
The Standard versions will use the same LED's, either 5mm or SuperFlux just less LED's per light. I've been testing some new layouts for the LED's that spread them out a little while keeping the light as full as possible, so far so good
The Ultimate versions have the maximum amount of LED's I can possibly squeeze in the housings. Nothing but all out max light
The 5mm LED's are just that 5mm in diameter. I've been using them for years, they're bright, somewhat narrow light disbursement but very vivid color. Rather inexpensive.
The SuperFlux LED's have the same vivid color as the 5mm but they have a wider viewing angle which means I'm able to use a few less of them & get the same or better light output. Much more expensive than the 5mm led's but the added output is worth it (in my opinion)
The cargo + turn signal mod requires me to replace some of the white cargo LED's with red LED's for the turn signal function, but the red LED's do show up quite well.
The all red + turn signal mod requires me to use the outer sections for the turn signals, but I'm looking into how to use the entire area for brakes & have the outer sections controlled to act as turn signals... have to stay tuned to see what I can come up with
