Looking for the pigtails connected to the fog lamps. The ones between the frame plug and the back of the lamp. Thanks for any help !!!

 

If you just want the pigtail, and not the whole harness that goes to the main harness, you can buy them through a few different automotive lighting suppliers. They're just 9006 connectors. I believe superbrightleds.com carries them, but I'm not 100% sure.

 

advance auto has the part the bulb goes into with some wire as well for 6 bucks a piece. I can check around here at the jy next time im out there but your best bet would be buying new

 

I need the harness to connect to the connector on the frame, and the connector on the lamp. Does that company carry that part ? Thanks for the help !!!!

 

Ah ok. Yeah, i don't think they have that. I'm actually about to go to the junkyard so I'll take a look.

 

That's not a pigtail. That's a harness.
A pigtail is just a connector with a few inches of wire that you use to either hook up your own wiring, or replace a missing/broken connector.

You are definitely looking for a salvage yard item here.

 

THANKS, I haven't had much luck. I'm adding fogs to my 99, and have installed and hooked up factory fog switch and fog's in bumper. I think all I have left is that pigtail.

I'm also wondering if 03 and newer are the same ? it would make sense, but things doesn't always work that way.

 

That harness you're looking for is enormous and has every front end light hooked up to it. I'd just wire them on their own circuit

 

Whole harness ??? My truck has unused plugs on the outside of each frame horn. I was told these were for the factory fog's. That is the pigtail/harness I'm after.........

 

the truck i looked at was a 99 4x4 off road package and had the fog lamp harnesses run upwards and across the entire front of the truck with sections branching off to different lights.

Are you sure those plugs aren't meant to go directly into the bulbs? because i've seen those pigtails that plug directly into the bulb on the frame horns on a few non-fog equipped trucks.

Yes trucks that aren't equipped had pigtails on the frame horns that go to the bulbs. Ford did this to only make 1 type of full harness instead of wasting money on making two different kinds, one with and one without fogs.

Some trucks even have the wiring behind the radio bezel ready for a switch.

is this the connector you have?

 

Sometimes they're fully pre-wired, sometimes only partly wired, sometimes the connectors behind the grille will be there but not the connector behind the radio bezel, sometimes both connectors will be there but the rest of the wiring can be missing.
Ford did some pretty odd wiring to save $0.01 per vehicle.

If you can't find the OEM connector you can just cut both ends off & use butt crimp connectors or crimp bullet connectors too.

If you find that your truck wasn't fully wired but still want to run an OEM fog switch in the radio bezel, I do a conversion kit that bypasses all the stock wiring & allows you to use pretty much any 12v light or accessory you want.

 

Wiring behind bezel was in place, relay per owners manual in place, connectors on frame horns in place. I've sourced out the correct bezel, fog switch, lower valance, and fogs. I don't really want to cut the harness.

Didn't think it'd be so hard to locate the harness. At this point the light does NOT illuminate when headlights are on and switch is depressed. Not sure if the lights need to be hooked up for it to illuminate.

My goal is be able to turn them on when ever I want, as long as the key is on.

 

Have you tested the wires coming to the switch with a bulb or multimeter?

As a matter of fact I did have some luck. Turns out my truck was missing the relays. I was able to pick up the relays, and pigtails from a 99 Explorer for free at the local wrecking yard.

First I put the relays in, and presto the light on the switch illuminated when depressed. And as a result power was now found at the frame horn female connector. The pigtails from the Explorer where 1/2 correct. The male portion fit the female connector correctly on the frame horns, but the female plug that connects to my Ranger lamps was incorrect. My local Napa store had the correct lamp plugs in stock ($6). I slid the factory wire loom back as far as possible, cut the leads in an offset manor, soldered the new leads, and heat shrunk them.

End result is factory correct operating and looking lamps with factory water tight connections. I'm in the whole project a few bones less than $150. I'm very happy, and surprised how much light they add at night.

 

Good to hear. Yeah, the Explorers use different bulbs. That year actually uses an H1 bulb in a special base.
