Stock shifter removal help

I've exhausted all known possibilites to try to get the answer to this, but I'm having trouble removing the stock shifter. I have removed the bolt from the passengers side and tried to tighten it as much as i can on the drivers side but it just keeps getting tighter and tighter and it feels like its gonna break. All the how-to's that i've seen do not help. removing the torx screws is not something i wanna do. what do i have to do to get this thing off??

Thanks

Manual trans, right?....

17mm (IIRC) nut, then pound out the bolt. Use the nut threaded on to save the threads on the end of the bolt when you hammer it out. I've had to beat on them a few times, but that bolt will come out.
If you are refering to the torx bolts, they only hold the cover plate on, has nothing top do with the shifter.

and i assume that you keep the nut on the passenger's side of the stud when hammering it? The bolt comes out going towards the drivers side then?

And yes, manual trans lol

In normal use, the nut is on the passenger side. It gets moved to the driver side and tightened to extract the wedge toward the driver side. Mine came out fairly easily using that method. However, like Carl said, it might need some persuasion.

Yep worked perfect after I slammed it a few times with the hammer.
Thanks again, it is because of you that I sport a FX4 shifter
Best part was.... I got it for free :)
