HeLp!!! Gear indicator broke!

I went to replace my dash lights today. All was well until i found out nothing was mentioned about the gear indcator STRING (seriously it's string). So my truck is in P and it's actually inbetween R and N; it's great.

Something so simple became a PITA, bulb broke in a socket, truck kept rolling back...F...U...N...

It looks like it has a slot to slide in, but i cant really move it (the guages) too far because im scared i'll snap the string. I like knowing what gear im in. I'll go fidget with it some more i guess. IM just wanting to know if anyone has a tip, trick, pic, or any idea of how this thing slide into the gauges.

there is an adjustment wheel under the dash to recenter the gear indicator needle. its a pain to reach but its under there.

this requires no dash pieces to be removed, just reach under and its to the right of the steering column.

Sweet. Thanks Zabeard & Malydeen.

I got the piece that actually goes into the gauges to go back. It's a tight PITA spot to work on.

My next truck will have twin sticks lol.
