FX4 Level II floor mats splitting apart

Heavy, ribbed "mud and slush" floor mats came standard on the 2002 FX4 or 2003-on FX4 LII's. They are also now a factory option on several other Rangers.

If you have these mats, you might want to take a close look at the area near the throttle pedal. On my truck, with only 15,000 miles, there are several splits in the mat that will allow water to pass through to the carpeting. It looks like the exact area where my heel rests and may be due to my driving habits, big feet or whatever.

I would post pictures but the dealer already confiscated my mat. Ford is clamping down on trim warranty and the dealer had to send them a bunch of digital pictures of the mat, my odometer and license plate number. They finally approved replacement after about an hour of dorking around.

Ha, that blows.

After you first mentioned this I checked mine out. My mats are still in top notch condition, no complaints here. Is this under the clutch heel or gas/brake heel? I usually drive w/ my accelerator foot nearly on it's side, almost like I'm duck-footed or something. That probably puts my heel to the left a few inches of where it should be..

HELLO GUYS!! I also made a commin about my driver's side floor mat slitting apart in Rwenzing's post (in gen-edge), I wasn't sure if any y'all remebered? Anyways about that when I found out about that and went to Ford Dealer last week and they fixed it and glued it!!! WRONG!!!! It's splitting apart again!!! A FULL WEEK LATER!!

TODAY, this afternoon, I went back to the Ford dealer and spoken to the service manager and explain him and showed him the problem... The manager said "I can't promised you if it's covered under warenty because it's 12 month or 20,000km is passed!! I explained to the manager about the "ranger mat" instead of the "FX4 mush mat" because set of "FX4 mush mats" was missing, so Ford sale offered me a new sets FX4 mush mats and they couldn't odered one because they couldn't get it and I waited 3 FULL MONTHS after I bought my truck(brand new), I told them just get me the "Ranger mesh mat" instead of the "FX4 mush mat" and the rear mats want's part of the deal but I paid the rear mat as an extra option to match the front ones!! Part number for driverside is (YL5J-1013005*B) The reason why I got the ranger mat instead of mat because it was same kind of mats!! just the name was different!!, that's all..

Now my question is, DO they HAVE to get me the "FX4 mush mat" or the "Ranger mat"? because the differcence is ranger logo on it instead of FX4 logo. And is it covered in my balance 3 year warrenty? because I couldn't get the FX4 mats when it was new!!! so I got the Ranger mats instead!!(3months of waiting because winter was coming!!)

I'm sorry for long post but I hope you understand of what I was saying.. And thanks in adanvce..

I tried to get my mats replaced under warranty and the dealer said it was a wear item like brake pads and was not covered under warranty. I called Ford directly and got the same story. If you some how get them replaced under warranty, consider yourself lucky.

I dunno guys. If the floor mats are the only thing on your truck that fails I would consider yourself lucky and head down to pep-boys for a new set.. I guess I'm just sick of seeing my dealer (for warranty service), but they've got me to the point where unless the truck just doesn't work, I'm not gonna complain about it.. Yup, I'm whuped..

I just picked up my new warranty mats this morning. Since this one fragged before 15,000 miles, I figure I can get one more free set before the warranty expires in 16 months. Then I think it will be an Edge floor for me.

I have never seen a floor mat that did NOT make a nice little hole where my heal sits. I have seen diamond plate mat/pans I think that is about the only thing that is not going to do that.

I don't know, Norman. By rights, they should have given you the correct Level II mats to begin with. I would scream until I got one or the other as a replacement. Your 36/50,000 km warranty should buy you something!

My truck has less than 15,000 miles on it. Even a cheap Wal-Mart floor mat should last longer than that before it starts leaking through to the carpet.

True. You didn't spend that kind of money on a new truck to have dumb issues like that, did you!

that is way too soon for that, 15K on it. I never saw a hole in my focus mats until like 60K miles.

Ford needs to take care of things like that, maybe you just got a defective mat.

I have heard from too many other people reporting the same thing at low miles to believe that it's an isolated bad mat. It looks like the material is thin and cracking from the constant bending of the raised ribs of the mat. These stick up about a half inch and take a beating, especially in the area under the driver's right heel. I think there should be a flat panel in that area without the raised ribs to prevent the problem.

Ford replaced mine last week and I'll be watching them closely to see if they need another replacement before my warranty ends.

new mats?

I've got the same problem, but my truck has a little over 100,000miles on it, so I guess that's expected. Anyone know what the mats are worth if you buy 'em from the dealership?

Att he dealership I would expect they charge close to $100. Here is a set on Ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OEM-F...Q5fAccessories

I would email the seller and make sure they are a pair and not $64 a piece.
