Center Armrest Question

Question

First off, I found my Ranger, and Sat I take delivery of it. It's a 2002 FX4 and its beautiful.

Now to the question, it's missing it's center armrest. Does anyone know how much Ford charges for one, or could i go to a JY and swap it out of an earlier model?

If it's the armrest that flips open to reveal the console storage lid that's in the middle of bucket seats..............they're poop! One of the few things that I think someone was on crack when put in this truck. I wish there was a replacement metal backing for underneath the padded part. It seems like the biggest(nicest term possible) ppl that get in my truck half rip off the grab handle getting in, then put all their weight on that arm rest to get their big ol butt situated on the seat that they like to put burn holes in >=[

....lol, sorry i drifted off topic for a second.

But yeah, I fixed the one in my old FX4 three times. Once under warranty. My LII it came broken, got worse, and I just used some 2 ton epoxy on it. We'll see how that works.

The armrest I just got is also smashed to hell. I may just disassemble the entire thing and rebuild it with something else that is a tad more flexible than the plastic Ford is using.

A replacement metal backing plate would solve the issue. Leave it to Ford to let a crap part in production to **** off even more customers. Metal vs. plastic would be what? An extra two or three dollars? It'd pay off in the long run with warranty repairs. It'd also improve customer satisfaction.

The original owner appears to have disassembled it and rivet in place a piece of metal or two. I think I'll add a plate of steel on both sides and epoxy things back together to try and make it more durable.

No worries David, I realize you didn't cause it. Whoever the original buyer of the truck was smashed the hell out of it!
