I don't think its a bad idea, at least you didn't put them all over the place and under the truck.

I think it would look pretty decent, as long as its not too intense.

I'd like to see some pics

its not bright at all just enough so that if something falls on the floor the i can pick it up easily and i have them on a switch so that if it gets annoying then i just shut them off

Actually it's smarter to use transistors and have them feed off of the door latch.

Wow, that looks REALLY good. Did you follow any kind of how-to on here that others can use to do that? That's almost exactly what I want to do to mine, and I'm guessing you replaced the dash lights with blue leds too?

Search around for my posts. I learn and muddle as I do the work, most of it is posted.

I did blue LEDs on the Ranger dash, and red on the IX dash.

I have extra 28" strips for the doors (Red) if you want them. Exactly what I have on my car. I have 2 of them extra, trying to sell.

How much space is in the door tread area when the door is closed ?

Is there special LED Strips to use ?

How did you run the wires ?

Where did you connect them to the Interior Lights ?

Thanks

There's a lot of room. All you have to do is squish some play-doh in your door and measure the distance between the door and the rocker.

Is there special LED Strips to use ?
Yeah, they are silicon enclosed.

How did you run the wires ?
I ran a power wire through the OEM rubber encased sleeve and used transistors inside of the door. There is a ground on the latch as is so you just can use that for ground.

Where did you connect them to the Interior Lights ?
I use transistors to tell the LEDs if they should be on or not. I don't connect them to the interior lights. That's pretty easy to do if you wanted to though.

Hey thanks for the info.
Did you happen to do a “How-To” on this ?

I like it.

Not yet. If you want the strips I have I'll gladly provide a wiring diagram with the strips. You need to get transistors and diodes from radioshack though.

40$ shipped for both 28" strips (red) first come first serve!

The hardest part is running power through both doors. For this I would tap off of the fused side of a "hot all the time" fuse. From here run 2 wires through both door grommet rubber hoses. I tape mine to an unbent hanger and slowly work them through where the stock wires go. From here all of the wiring you need is easily accessed. You will need to install one diode from radioshack on each door on an existing wire (they cost 1$ each) You will also need to solder a transistor in. I have the specifics as of which color. I think the transistors were like 2$ each at radioshack and I have the exact model numbers. What took such a long time for this mod was the whole figuring out how to make it work part.

I had 9" mini tube neons under the dash in my old car. Don't have pics tho. I didn't think it is "ricey" unless you have them flash to the beat of the music blaring out of you stock speakers and base model head unit you had installed at Best Buy lol
