Icon5 Swap gauge clusters and...surprise!

Hey y'all! I tried to read up on this before I did it, and I must have missed something...please help me diagnose:

Mine is a '93 Ranger XL, 2.3 auto std cab. Cluster shell has 2 gauges left side (alternator output over coolant temp) and 2 on right (oil pressure over fuel level), with speedo and od in center (5 digit odo, cable driven). My new cluster was a junkyard find fro a '94 Ranger XLT 4.0L 4X4, with 4 gauges on left (all teh ones from the old cluster) and tach on right, with 6-digit odo and speedo in center, cable-driven. I wanted the tach and the 6-digit odo (makes the truck more valuable, at least here in Georgia!)

So, I swap them out and....nothing. Nothing! The only working parts now are speedo and odo (which is cool) and the turn signal lights on the cluster. No gauge is functioning, NO DASH LIGHTS WORK - NOT ONE. Checked all fuses and connections - all are good. Do I maybe need a subharness to make this work? Are the electronics for the two cluster shells that different? (Looks like that could be...this new one is red with many more lines on the back and with the little motherboard card on the right-hand side, looking at the back, where the original is green, less business on it and the card is on the left.)

I realize now that I can use the old original shell easily and settle for the better odo...but I WANT that tach! Lol. Is there any way with what I have I can make this go? Thanks for any help in advance.

I don't think you have a 1993 Ranger or you didn't get a 1994 cluster, lol

1993 and 1994 Ranger clusters are the only ones compatible for those years, 1995 won't work and 1992 won't work

1994 cluster wiring diagram below, 1993 is the same
Check the fuses and wire colors

Look on ebay for Ranger clusters in different years to see what matches what you have and what you got

And just as a heads up, pin 9(black/yellow wire) on connector "A" is a ground wire for the Tachometer, that wire needs to be cut for the Tach to read correctly on a 4cyl Ranger, no Ground at pin 9 for 4cyl, Ground at pin 9 for V6 engine

Hi RonD - I wondered if you would answer my inquiry! To save time, let me straight up admit that if I had any eggs, they'd be on my face right now..I did not have Connector A fully plugged in...once I corrected this minor oversight, it worked exactly as advertised....plug-and-play, everything works, including the tach...which works better now thanks to you! Sorry everyone and thanks Ron.
