most of the big name ones are really all made by the same company (directed electronics) I have the Viper 5901, its awesome excellent range.
you WON'T get a mile range out of it. just saying. Maybe in the plains of nebraska but realistically1/8-1/4 mile in the city. basically better line of site, the better you do.
cons are with the viper you do have to charge you fob but its like once a month for me and it charges while i'm asleep (usb charger)

The 5901 is a great unit.
I get Viper products installed in all my vehicles (work & personal). Once you have a system with remote start…you will never know how you lived without it!
I love the Viper line because of all the options you can customize using the Bitwriter tool. I purchased my own Bitwriter (only like $75) due to the number of vehicles I've had a system installed into over the years...I love being able to change it to EXACTLY how I want it to operate.
On the security/remote start combo side, you only have to charge the 5901 or the 5902. The 5701 security/remote start (claimed 2,000' range) runs on batteries, but eats thru them like crazy! Talking like 3 weeks unless you have the key fob lock enabled.
The 5701 still has the two-way feedback (same as the 5901/02 series) which is nice to know your truck received the command correctly.
All that said, I would recommend going with the upgrade and getting the 5901 or 5902 in order to have the USB rechargeable fob as well as the increased range it provides.
