dash lights

i'm sure this question has been asked before, but how many lights are there on the dash of the 07 ranger? 194 is the number right? how many for making the dash light up, how many for trouble lights(cel, brake ect) how about for the headlight switch, 4x4 switch, hvac controls and anything else on the dash?

i found a source or cheap LED, 194 bulbs, that should work really well for this application, but i need to know numbers and colours for the install... i want to change all my trouble lights to LED also... so when the parking brake is on, it is an LED light, the low fuel light is LED, the CEL is LED... you get the picture... turnsignals included...

i guess it would be easier, for numbers for the back lighting, and then i can probably count the trouble lights myself...

I'd love to know this too, so I can just buy em all at once. I remember seeing a thread for replacing them in the cluster, I think it's 16 smaller, and 7 or so of the bigger lights. That's a start at least. Dont' know if that included the trouble lights.

i think the bigger ones are the trouble lights... i'm going to have to count how many of each colour for the trouble lights anyways, so it's not THAT big of a deal...

Your cluster doesn't use 194's It uses the 74 style bulbs. There's a few members with LEDs on 04+ trucks with the digital gauge cluster. It can be done, just harder to do than the 03 and earliers.

Not to threadjack but is there a DIY guide? Half of my dash lights just went out on me last week and have been looking in the forums.
@ weezl, where you getting your led's? I was thinking of swapping mine out since I have to take it apart anyways.

ebay that **** man... these are the ones i'm looking at right now...

10 x Blue LED T5 Bulbs Wedge Car Light Bulbs 70 73 74 on eBay.ca (item 160408318290 end time 27-Mar-10 2008 EDT)

if half of your lights went out, i would think it would more likely be a bad connection on the board... it is highly unlikely that they all burned out together... but that being said, often one or 2 bulbs total, will make the entire thing almost completely black... my mustang was like that... 2 out, and i couldn't see how fast i was going over 80km/h

as for a how to, i think tre wrote one

I wrote a how to on the 03 and older gauges, I think Jp7 did one for the 04+ gauges though.

If you search LED 2004 CLUSTER you should be able to find it. I didn't do a "How to", I more took photos and shared the experiences of my build. The videos that I have of how to assemble and dissasemble the cluster will prove hundreds of times useful though.

I also suggest against modifying any of the idiot lights, or indicator lights into LED that are not already LED. Trevor converted all of his to LED and the few conversations I've had with him on the phone lead me to believe that this is related. During my build I ran into problems (because my entire truck is basically LED) with the running lights going on dimly when any of my flashers are blinking. I had to install a regular incandescent bulb hidden away in parallel on the running lights circuit to give the current a way to go backwards, because LED's act like a one way road. I can exlain more if you have questions but the SJB and the circuitry is really not designed for these kinds of modifications so there will be some things you have to do to make it work like you intend too.

hang on, go over this with me? i know the bulb i am planning on using, so i was going to order them, of all different colours, as soon as i figure out how many of each i need... so you had your running lights turn on when the turn signals were blinking... like, your corner markers? how did you wire this incandescent? how does this work, what is the logic behind it? i don't follow you completely...

also, do you remember how many of each bulb there were, colour and/or placement i do want to do everything LED aswell

I changed every single bulb in my 2004 to LED. Outside bulbs, Inside bulbs (all except the cluster indicator and idiot lights.

What do you want to change to LED.

Plugin bulbs will give you crap results.

why is that though? everyone says they will, but i don't see the logic behind it... it's all in the pattern of output, and if you match the pattern to an incandescent bulb, it should give nearly the same results

Problem is you don't actually match the pattern of the incandescent bulb.

even with the inverted tip?

i realize standard LED's project out the end and is roughly a 60* viewing angle... this is because of the bulb effect on the end... but when you sand that to flat, or invert it, it projects it outwards, so it's a fan, but not projecting much light out the tip...
