heater fan

my heater fan stopped working on my 97. It works on the highest setting but not on the other 2 or 3 speeds whatever it is. any ideas of what would cause this? the fan is still good obviously if it works on high but why not at any other speed?

This usually means that the blower resistor block has failed. The resistor is bypassed in the high speed position. A new one costs about $12~20. Also check the plug connector at the resistor block for corrosion.

Look next to the blower motor on the HVAC plenum (firewall area). You should see an electrical connector with 4 wires plugged onto the resistor block which is held into the plenum by 2 screws.

The blower resistor block looks something like this generic picture. You will probably find that the coils are broken.
