removing the speedo needles

ok, i want to get white gauges for the ranger, and im not patient enough to wait for a set of sport trac gauges to show up on ebay. i took the speedo needle off my older ranger and screwed it all up. after i put it back on it was bouncing all over the place. i had to get another cluster. to prevent this from happening to the 01 ranger, i need advice on how to remove the needles without screwing up the gauges. maybe i lost everyone but i hope someone can decipher what i just asked. thanks!

just remove the speedo needle by laying the cluster flat on its back, take out the small pin that makes it stop, let the needle settle, mark the spot where it ends up, remove the needle with a fork, fix your mileage ( yes it can be do ne but it is illegal and that wont be discussed), reinstall the odometer, put the needle back on the mark, bring the needle up and put the small pin back in, then install the cluster. also i would not reccommend removing any other needle...they are way to much work and probably not ever be right.
**i am in no way an expert if you mess something up its all on you. just telling you the way i did it***

you will still need to do just the speedo so that the mileage on your truck is right...it isnt as much work as it seems...but if you had a gps unit ...that would make it real easy.

Here's another variation on needle placement plus info on correcting the odometer after a cluster swap:
