Shorty Center Console Install Questions

where do i cut if i dont have a center console already?
i purchased an explorer shorty console.
and got both front and back brackets.
does my 2000 ranger already have mounting spots in the floor?
i just need to know where to cut my floor, without having to cut it too big

how does yours mount the plastic yellow clips? or the black bracket like in this install?
Explorer Center Console Upgrade

If you have the yellow clips its an easy install. You just feel around on your carpet/floor for the transmission tunnel brace. Then cut out a little rectangle around the brace large enough to expose the holes. Then snap in the yellow clips into the holes in the brace and install the console. If its the black bracket I'm not too sure, as mine wasn't that way. Just one tip make sure your rear console mount is sitting prefectly up right and maybe a hair forward of where you think it needs to be. I thought I had mine where I thought it needed to be but when I went to put the top part of the console on it wouldn't drop into the aluminum mount. Apparently I had the mount leaning back a little when I test fitted it.

The clips are just oval shaped clips that fit into the holes in the floor, that are under the carpet. Then you put the console in and when you tighten the screws they go down into the clips and expand them so they hold the console in place. Maybe STL has some pics. He seems to have pics of just about every interior combo ever.

You see the cross member/brace running on your floor? Its that bump about 8-12" behind the shifter. If you feel around on your carpet you might be able to feel the holes in that brace for the console front bracket. I have vinyl flooring but was able to feel the holes and confirm it with a small ice pick. If so thats where you want the two holes for your front bracket to mount. It looks like you have the console very close to being in the right spot. They don't leave a lot of room for tall cups with out the shifter getting in the way. I have the dual cup insert in my FX4 shorty console and with 32 oz drinks I have to use the second cup holder thats farther away from the shifter. If I have smaller drink I can fit it in there and clear the shifter.
I'd be interested to know if manual trans trucks had shorty console option and what insert they used.

Well I did some research and its the same console I have.

It looks like the FX4 shifter gives more clearance for the drinks.

i also have the cupholder insert... so when i get bored i can interchange them when i want. i just thing the side by side cupholder looks nice... but the vertical one is more practical for stick

and it does look like the fx4 shifter gives alot more clearance
