Hey Everyone. This is my first post, so yes, I'm a noob.

Here is my dilemma. I have a 2005 Ranger Extended Cab. I do not like the seats for a few reasons, so I purchased older seats off of ebay.

The seats I purchased were advertised as 2005, but by the design, I knew they were not. They are the style that you would see from 2001 and 2002. They are rounded at the top, not rectangular like the 2005 or 2006 models.

The seats were pulled from a regular cab ranger, judging from the tracks (the black parts that are bolted to the floor/frame of the truck.

I've read on forums where people swap seats, to just "swap the tracks". Well, how do I do that. If I could take the tracks (just the black parts, not the gray metal that is also attached to the seat back lever) off my current seats and put them on the old seats, I would be set. But how is that done. I'm trying to find a bolt or screw that keeps the track from sliding out. I can see it when I look down the track, but is there a way for it to be removed.

Can anyone please help me on this?

I believe you should be able to just use the tracks that are on your new seats, they should just bolt right in. If they are different though, its basically taking the tracks off your old seats and putting them on the seats you want to put in. Can anyone else be more specific, I've never actually done this considering I just drilled new holes and mounts for my buckets.

 

The funny thing is, and color me retarded on this one, every post I come across, people say to just swap the tracks. The only problem, nowhere in any of those posts does anyone list how to swap the tracks.

I'm sure its easy. I'm good with computers, so I'm sure someone saying swap the tracks would be like me saying swap the harddrive to someone who knows very little about computers.

Also, are the tracks attached to seat back lever? If that's the case, I'm kinda screwed. I want to replace my 2005 seats with 2002 seats, and the levers are in different spots.

 

I bought a pair of the 01-03 edge seats for my 96 but i too cant put them in because of the tracks and im a little stumped on how to put them in. After looking at the tracks on the two the 01 seat tracks are so much more complicated than the 96's. I called about having them welded/fabricated to fit them in and they said it would be 125.00.

 

why not get tracks off an 01 and mount them in

 

The seat tracks are attached to the seat with four 10mm (I think) bolts.

 

I don't know if this was the correct way to do it, but it worked.
I loosened the bolt until the threads were below the welded in nut and lft it in place.

I then grinded off the two indentations inside the seat track and forced the tracks off. I haven't tried to install them on the new seat yet

 

I had to swap track for my standard cab when I bought explorer seats. It was confusing at first but I eventually unbolted the whole seat track assembly, then swapped the seat bottom and seat back individually.

Basically, remove all the bolts that secure the track assembly to the seat bottom. To do this, turn the seat upside down and lay it on your couch.

You'll have to pull the seat-back material back a little bit to expose the Torx bolts that secure the back to the seat tracks. Also you'll need a Torx bit for the seat-belt bolts if you decide to swap them.

I can take pictures if you'd like, but here's the basic track assembly that you'll remove from the seats, along with the handles and other hardware.

The yellow circles indicate the bolt locations that need to be removed, along with the metal cross bar and it's two bolts.




As you can see from the pictures, you will have to remove the handles from the outside of the seat before you can remove the tracks. Also, the tracks shown are for sale, so let me know if you need them with your handle delimma.

 

did the black angle brackets have bolts?

I didnt really pay attention and just started cutting **** off...

 

The black angle brackets bolt to the floor. They face the opposite direction of the seat back supports.

well i didnt want to destroy the brakcets (thus no sledgehammer!) and i still have seat movement now cause I didnt destroy the adjustable tracks. but what im referring to and the l-bracket type things on the top of the sliders that connect to the bottom of the seat back, did they unbolt out? cause I cut first then drilled all the rivets later. it would have been nice to sort of salveage the stock seats for office chair hybrids or something...

The I-sliders are riveted, and can't be removed. You have to drill out the stop-rivets to get them out. It's much easier to remove the whole track assembly. (6 bolts)

 

I just "joined" the site today with the primary purpose being this exact topic!
I too purchased seats via ebay and was told they would "bolt right in". After receiving them I found there was difference enough in the floor bolt patterns between a regular and extended cab that "modifications" would need to be made , including uhhhhhh, rivet cutting and the drilling of new holes, etc., etc....

I was just getting ready to re-sell these on ebay when I came upon this thread. For the moment, I now have renewed vigor and interest in trying to swap the d#*n tracks and seats without ruining the donor seats!

Thanks for the new info.... I'll post when I succeed or lose patience, whichever comes first!

Ha ha! Welcome to the site, Darrel. We have guys trying every possible way to do things without spending extra money over here -- that's one of the things I like about this place.

 

You CAN figure it out, and it CAN be done. If you need any pictures or more help, let me know! I need a good excuse to pull my seats out and clean the floor completly!
