92 Mustang GT Seats installed in 04 FX4 today

I, like I am sure many others, could not stand the Ranger seats. I have a bad back from a cycle wreck in 97 and the seats in the truck were killing me. So I installed a set of 92 Mustang GT seats but used 89 headrests (they are bigger and tilt forward). It turned out pretty well. I still have to install the console I ordered and should get to that in the next few days. I still have to pull the seats back out and paint the brackets. I also ordered an upholstery shampooer for the seats that I will have to get to as these were sitting in storage for a few years and need it. They are SO COMFORTABLE though and is a HUGE improvement. But here are prelim. pics:

I cut and drilled the Ranger brackets off the sliders and did the same to the Mustang sliders. I then just welded the Ranger brackets to the Stang sliders. I set them up where they can slide way back.........my 5'11 frame cannot even touch the pedals if I move the seat all the way back, so all the leg room in the world. I bought some shoulder bolts at Lowes and they worked perfectly to install the Ranger female seat belts to the Stang seats.
Here is the console I am going to install, It is the Rugged Ridge 2 (made for Jeep):

I hope to get it all done in the next few days, but I am getting behind on getting my Mustang back together and it has a dyno appoint. May 20th, so that has to take priority. I will update when I get this done.

Seats look cheap IMO. Maybe some seat covers would help that.

They sure don't look any cheaper then the stock ones that came in this truck, which is probably my only complaint with the vehicle, save for the mpg.

Ford really skimped here. The oem seats were more uncomfortable then the old Saturn we have for a back up car. This was done for comfort more than looks and let me tell you.......100 times more comfortable. This is my DD, used to pull the Stang to the strip, dogs to the vets, and stuff home from the hardware. I may reupholster them later this year in vinyl just because they will be easier to clean. The stockers will soon be for sale in the forum here for those who like them. They are in great shape and truck was never smoked in. They are never going back in this truck.

What are you going to do with the old seats?

Edit: you said you are going to sell them eventually

Well I will still disagree. The stock seats fit really well in the truck and the mustang ones look out of place and cheap.

robert99ranger:
I'll send you a PM. I am going to list them in the proper area of the forum (don't want to step on any toes). I ordered a shampooer for the house that has upholstery attachments and I planned to clean them first.

98liftedranger: To each their own, agree to disagree. Why we all own different cars/trucks.

And again, this is just my DD.....not a show truck or toy for me, that is what the Mustang and BMW are for in my case (though the BMW is leaving in favor of a fuel saving diesel Jetta soon). Comfort is my priority here. Now in all honesty......if I can catch up my work on the Mustang, I may throw the other pair of 89 GT seats I got on the bench and reupholster them mainly because they will be easier to clean in vinyl (yes lots of parts laying around the garage). They will be like this, only gray with black inserts:

Right now I am too strapped for time......but maybe in a month or two.

Well when you are wrong you are wrong, and I can admit that. After putting the console in, which is a different shade of black then I had in mind, now it does look odd. There are too many shades and colors going on so I am going to re upholster the seats afterall. I am thinking about just doing them with the same Mach 1 upholstery that I am installing in the Mustang, to keep it simpler.

On the bright side, the console does seem to be well built and is quite functional for use in the truck.

Think I am just going to go with this:

but we will see......
My OEM Ranger seats are now listed in the for sale section on this site and on Craigslist.
