OHC Mod Kinda Done....

Well I "did" my OHC today....
After spending +/- 6 hours doing it, I CANNOT get the front clips to engage whatever I do. I have tried bending the clips out a bit to try to get them to latch better, but they just pop right back out again. so my OHC looks kinda retarded cause its screwed in on top but not latched at the bottom...
Second problem: The dome lights do not work. The lights do not power on when I open the door, hit the lamps buttons, or turn the dimmer switch to the on position in the truck. All the power for those lights should come from the factory dome, correct?
So I probably have a wiring issue there (OMG!%&#*^#)
I ended up getting really frustrated with it so I need to take a breather and fix the bugs.
The good thing is the rest seems to work...

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Oh and I just went out and checked.... When you turn the headlights on, the console dims, but it flickers :(

I went out and checked the dimmer switch, and it seem when the dimmer is at its brightest setting (just before the interior lights turn on) the console is fine, but as soon as you dim it ever so little, it starts flickering

Been there, done that. They will not engage.
I will try bending the bracket a bit.
Any ideas on the flickering display when dimmed??

any idea why it would do this? I'm thinking the length of the wires may have something to do with it... Maybe the unit isn't getting enough power when dimmed?
Thanks for the input MOTO, I will most likely do that

Maybe you have a bad connection somewhere or a bad console. Mine dims just fine and my wire is like 10 feet so length shouldn't be a problem. Also your bracket might be upside down mine was hanging low like that in the front but it was because i had installed it upside down.

Did you cut out the holes too big? Also..do your tabs have the little spring clip things that push outwards that hold the ohc in place? Only being held in by the screws might snap it from bouncing around causing tension

thats just the joy of putting it in a new ranger, they changed the headliner and it doesn't fit properly....i just cut the headliner at the front entirely off (but to the inside edges of the OHC) and then it pushed in and the headliner was tight up against it so you can't tell that its cut right off. as for the flickering, I have the same issue, but i don't dim my dash lights so I just make sure its all the way up

were you able to get the tabs to engage?
Remember you need to cut 2 slots in the metal where the bracket goes, so the tabs would pass through it.

Yes I was finally able to get them to work.
Had to drill out the holes in the roof a bit more, but they engage now.
As for the flickering when dimmed, I may re-check that connection... one day... :)
