OHC & Headliner Delete Mod

I got my OHC all wired up , but I failed big time when i cut the hole in my headliner!
I used the template in the threads here, but I must have had it located wrong, so the hole in the headliner was too far back. I swore a lot, threw some stuff, then yanked the headliner out and started working on the wiring. There is an '01 at the local salvage yard that has a grey interior in it, so I'll be snagging that first thing tomorrow. For what it's worth, the OHC works like a charm. I ROCK (NOT)!

Same here... just held it up and cut small, then worked my way bigger. That sucks though! At least you found a replacement!

that sucks! i cut a section of the explorer headliner out yesterday while i was in the yard. I want to try to make a template that would mount by the visors and have the exact spot for it.

Went to the JunkYard first thing this morning. Pretty muddy after last night's rain. The headliner that I thought I was going to get was a no-go--that truck got smoked hard right in the passenger-side door--the whole cab side was caved in, so I couldn't even get the doors open, plus the headliner was in pretty tough shape. I did a little snooping around and came across a '98 or '99 with a grey interior that wasn't there last week.
HL is quite a bit darker than the one that I ruined, but I got it in this morning and it looks pretty good. Started pouring as soon as I got it about half-way removed. OHC and dome light with maps work perfectly and look awesome. Original one from my '04 was quite a bit more substantial than the replacement-the backing was like a fiberglass-reinforced cardboard, while the replacement is a lot more flimsy. All in all, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Me too, but it's really starting to **** me off! That stuff just will not stay adhered. I went out tonight after my truck sat in the sun all day, and the vinyl was starting to come off. It works great on flat areas (like around my cup holders), but any place that it needs to be heated, stretched, and molded around curved shapes, it's a royal pain! I'm done with it-I've wasted about 150 bucks on the stuff-so I'm going back to paint on the OHC, bezel, and door panel inserts. Never have a problem getting Krylon Fusion to stick!

Thanks-I'm diggin' the contrast, but it's a lot darker in the cab now! I'm gonna be on the lookout for a lighter grey one like the one that I FUBARed.

Or you could re do the dark one with what ever fabric you choose. Pretty cheap, custom mod. there's a thread somewhere on here about re doing the headliner.
