I can't personally guarantee this but here is the sensor part number that was posted on GE awhile back:
You will also need to the connector pigtail which has the base part number of 14S411. A Ford dealer counter person should be able to look up the complete number for a repair connector.
The cheapest and easiest way would be to get both from a 96~2001 junkyard Explorer. Just be aware that high-end Explorers (Eddie Bauer or Limited for example) often have two ambient temp sensors up front - one for the EATC climate control and one for the overhead console and they are NOT the same. If you try to use an EATC sensor on an overhead console, the temp readout will be WAY off.
You can identify the correct one for the console by verifying that the color codes are blue/white and blue/yellow.
The picture below shows two styles of overhead console sensors that are from different year Explorers. Notice that they have the correct color codes on the connector pigtail. They are electrically interchangeable and either would work equally well on your 2000 console.
