Gauge cluster wiring different?

Gauge cluster wiring different?
I have a '96 Ranger 2.3 / 5spd, bought new with no tach. I swapped in the gauge cluster from (what I was told) a 1998 Ranger with an auto transmission, but has a tach.
With the newer gauge cluster, the CEL doesn't work and won't pass inspection. When I have my brights on, the turn signals are backwards on the cluster only. Left is right, and right is left. If I turn my brights off, the turn signals are correct on the cluster. None of this affects the actual turn signals on the body of the truck, only what is displayed on the gauge cluster. All of the gauges work fine, and are just as accurate as the old gauges are.
I've already confirmed that everything works normally by swapping back in my old no-tach cluster.
I'm thinking that maybe some wires need to be swapped around in the plugs to the back of the cluster, but don't know where to start. I did a quick search, but cannot find anything relating to this issue. Everything I found says it is a plug and play swap. Anybody have this issue before?
