Ranger Intstrument Cluster Q's

Im sure this thread type has been done to death. I searched the forums and couldnt find exactly what i was looking for. So i have a 97 ranger 4cyl, the guage cluster is just your basic cluster. What i want to do is get something different out of an explorer, ranger, or even sport trac.

I noticed on most of the clusters they have the gear indicator on the bottom. Is there a way to get rid of that? No need to have a gear indicator ( D, R, 1, 2..) if i have a manual transmission. What do you guys with manuals do? Leave it there and ignore it? Surely there is a way to take care of it thats not to difficult.

My other question is. I noticed on some of the clusters, such as the sport trac's they have more bells and whistles than my truck has, for example 4 high/4 low lights, and some others. I dont think theres a way to get rid of those, but are there any out there that dont have those lights/options? I assume they wont light up because i dont have a connection for it, but i was just wondering..

Sorry if this has been asked many times before but i couldnt for the life of me find anything on this issue, if i missed it please direct me to the correct place. Also, any help would be appreciated!

It's just a faceplate like the other gauges. When you swap clusters, take the blacked out backing plate from yours and put it into the new cluster.

OKay, but what if i like the white from the sport trac? Then my other question is, most of them have the gear indicator, is this as easy as changing the blacked out backing like you said?

Ok, I bought an Explorer Sport cluster for my truck. It has all of that 4x4 lights in it. I am not 4x4. They do not light up since there is no wiring for it.

I am also a manual and it was an automatic. That gear selector indicator comes out real easy. You will see when you pull it and look at it. It just has like a little clip on it. Just put your blank faceplate in its spot. No big deal at all to do this swap.
