it says to use these plug locations because they are all the same , the problem im haveing is my wire colors dont match up with the colors in the how to. is this the way you guys identified the wires or am i missing something? thanks guys

 

What year is your Ranger? What colors don't match? And yes those are the colors my OHC had and all of them are correct.

 

my rangers an 03 but im refering to the wires on the write up dont match the colors from my ohc wire harness, ill post pics when i get home from work but heres my colors
lt blue/orange
lt blue/purple
blk/gray
green/orange
blue /yellow
purple/orange
blk/blue
blk
these are the colors on my ohc harness my question is should i disregard the colors and use the picture from trs as a reference?i posted the link that numbers the ports on the connection and i says that those ports corrosond with where each wire goes regardless of color

 

The only wire I see not matching is the Blue/Yellow wire. It is a temp sensor wire. Depending on the year you got the temp sensor out of it should have a Blue/Yellow and a Blue/White wire on it. Older years will have tow diffrent color wires but I can't think of them off the top of my head. When it comes time to hook the temp sensor up try hooking the two wires up to the temp sensor, if they are wrong then it will read something like -40*. If it does read -40* then try switching the wires. Then if it still doesn't work you may have a bad temp sensor.

 

You can also cross reference the two different color condemnations as they have both on TRS OHC install page. It looks like everything stayed the same in the plugs just the colors they used changes.

 

right thats what i mean the ports the wires go into on the connection stays the same but the wire colors are different i just wanted a confermation that the ports are the same and the wires could be anycolor as long as they go to the right port

 

From the info on TRS they stayed the same. So I would just use the pin numbers and go from there.

ive figured out which wires go where , and ive got bracket mounted in roof. I have zero electrical experience but this seems fairly simple i watch a few youtube videos :). whats the best way to add my extra wire to my harness ive seen the sodering technique and also saw one guy just twist the two wire ends together and wrap with electical tap( or use a dielectric grease wrap thing?) whats you guys recommend? then once i add the extra wire ill use tap connectors to tie in the rest?

 

use tube connectors, or atleast thats what i think theyre called, strip the ends of each wire, stick in the tube and the crimp it down

so wheres the pics of the ohc that traveled that far? haha

 

lol best part was the box had r/f huge on the back . going to get tube connectors now see if i can finish it up

 

If youve never used those connectors, make sure you crimp them down good and give them a lil tug to make sure theyll stay on there. You might wanna wrap them connector/wires with e-tape as well to make sure you cant yank out the cable when running it through the truck.

 

got it in wired up only problem i have is map lights wont work , i opened up one bulbs missing ones burnt=( tring to find bulb part number anyone happen to know it ?

 

Does your OHC have the bulbs that plug directly in or have the screw bases like the lights in the gauge cluster? Mine has the screw in bases and IIRC its 906 bulbs.

ok wireings good lights are good but my fitment on the ohc is wrong , i think im going to need another set of the clips for the front part because they arent stayin attached . when i do get them attached the back of the ohc has a 1/2 inch gap between it and the headliner. im going to get pics up shortly

 

Just take a screwdriver and pull the little center piece out a little and it should stay. At first when I got mine in and went to put in the back screws it would pull the front out.

 

Yup, the back screws pull the front clips out if the tabs on the clips are worn or not far out enough. Just do what Cody suggested and you should be fine.

 

You may still have a small gap after adjusting the bracket and clips. If so, take a piece of the scrap headliner that you cut out for the console bracket and use it as a shim above the headliner at the back of the console. It should push it down just enough to close the gap.

 

`after looking at it this morning i think i have it to far forward. the front of the console is overhanging the headliner so im going to take it off and mount it about a 1/2 inch farthe back see what that does. also ordered all new leds for it and mustang dome light from superbrightleds.com

bah broke the clip that snaps the console to the roof . cant find it at autozone or ford dealer anyone have any ideas

 

the ford dealer will have it, you just have to tell them exactly what it is

 

take it with you, have donor vehicle vin handy, if its 2wd or 4x4, if it has a/c, engine size and paint code...or else they wont be able to find it! LOL....srsly though, dealer should have it.
