i read the guide on RPS on seat swaps and headed down to my local jy.
So I bought a pair of bucket seats out of a 91 Escort Lx. According to the guide, these should bolt right onto the floor, trax and all with the factory bolts from my truck. Well, either the guide is wrong, or it's cause it's an LX, but they don't even come close to fitting. after two days of just trying to get 2 bolts out, I find this out. How fun.

But all is not lost, I'm not able to bolt the tracks to the floor, however, I could drill new holes, right? wrong, that bend in the front brackets isn't gonna agree with me on that. So I took the rails off and figured i could use the holes from the rails and bolt the seat directly to the floor with new holes withot the rails.

Yes, I know, the seats won't slide anymore, but at this point, i could give two ***** about that, as long as they lean forward. That's all i care about.

i still have the passenger side factory seat to dremel out tonight and then I can start measuring and drilling. hopefully by wednesday I'll have buckets and plenty of room for a center console.

This whole thing have been quite an experience and is going to require a portion of my cunning, no, all of my cunning to finish it by this weekend with the center console. Any advice or ideas to help make things go smoother would be great.

would u be able to take the tracks out of the car you took the seats outa? just a suggestion idk.

on the seat swaping guide, its supposed to be that the seat bolts onto your stock tracks, however the 98+ seats involve cutting the tracks apart from the seat, but dont mess up cause theres no going back

 

Could you bend the front of the rails to fit, or will that ruin the tracks? Maybe make some spacers out of some scrap metal? You'd be sitting alittle higher, but that could work.

 

so you mean that IF he had a 93-97 or older that those seats would bolt right in?

im running mustang buckets with 93-97 seat tracks on my 01, and so is my buddy in his 99

 

well, i wouldnt be able to bend the bracket cause the brackets are longer AND wider, so I think what I'm doing right now will work, ill just have a lower seat.

yes I was kidding, and it was about the PT Cruiser joke. i just thought it was lame. (if that offended anybody, I apologize, I've been through that before, so I know what it's like)

anyway I ended up using a couple of blocks of wood to level out the seats since the floor aint level, so thanks for that idea. I've got the seats on, but only a couple of the holes I drilled lined up, im going to line up the holes this weekend, but they look nice and feel a LOT more comfortable. once i get a hold of a camera, I'll post some pics.

 

I also can't decide wether to glass my own center console, or just buy an explorer center console. I've got a 10' sub sittin right between the seats, will the exploder console fit with that there? or should i just glass a console that will form around the sub? ideas?

 

How hard is it to fiberglass my own. I know I would prolly just use styrofoam for the shape, then coat it with silicon, then glass it, sand the crap out of it, and paint, then sand the crap out of it again. I'd prolly have to do it a few times before I got good at it right?
