cigarette smoke removal

as stated in an earlier post, My old reliable 98 was a victim of a 16 year old text messaging and was declared totaled in the five car melee. Had that truck just right for me but found a great 2002 that i picked up for a nice price. One of the things that need addressed is it was a SMOKED IN vehicle. The previous owner used some sort of air freshner that is just as bad as smoke.
Anyone know the best way to remove this?
Thanks

The best way is to find a detail shop with an ozone machine. They let it sit overnight and it's better by morning. When I was smoking I always kept the windows atleast cracked and no one could smell anything so cracking the windows 24/7 would help too. It's in the fabric of the interior so a good detail would make a noticable difference, just depends on how bad it is.

^^What she said.

If it's still there....me personally......i'd replace the carpet, upgrade to bucket seats, and possibly replace the headliner.

I cut up a couple of oranges and let them sit inside the vehicle with the windows rolled up on a hot day. The heat makes the citrus absorb the odor, your truck might smell like an orange for a couple of days, but its better than smoke IMO. Besides roll down the windows and the smell will clear right out with a cruise or two.

My truck was a smoker truck too. Just give it time and the smell will go away. After about a year the smell was gone.

When I bought my truck I knew a smoker previously owned it. I looked in the ash tray and it was full of butts. I pointed it out to the lot manager that if they are trying to sell a truck they should at least empty the ash tray.

He was so embarrassed that they shampooed the whole thing. I didn't pay for the service, but it did work very well to remove the smell. Maybe there is some sort of upholstry cleaner you can try. Don't they have a foam you spray on and vaccum off?

Rent a carpet extractor if you're going to shampoo... atleast dedicate some time and effort, no quick fix

Fabreeze and maybe 15 minutes. It doesn't stain anything I have put it on yet but do a test first. I have used it on vinyl, leather, painted surfaces, cloth seats.

some good stuff. What i did was shampoo the entire interior by hand with a soft brush and a mixture of water/carpet cleaning solution that i use on my carpets in my house
spent hours hand scrubbing then used towels to wipe/dry it

Looks great and smells even better. As a last task, i let the inside have a good coat of Febreeze and let it set for a few hours with the windows up.

NO SMOKE and it looks great.
High five to myself

If it took the reefer smell out, I'm quite sure it will fix cig-smoke stench.
HAHAHAHAHA mine is the same way
